Three Practical Tips To Grow Your Business Website TrafficAdvice from Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Experts Many SEO experts will advise you to optimize your website to potentially increase your websites ranking and traffic from search engines. To do so, they will tell you that you need good optimized web pages with good original content, the right keywords in your title and the right keyword density. They will advise you on the importance of using tags, like header and anchor tags, on your site. They will tell you to create a sitemap and a (robots.txt) file to act as a guide and make it easier for search engines to navigate through your site. More importantly, they will also advise you to optimize as many web pages as you can on your site and to have a good quality backlink campaign. They will even show you simple ways to check to see how many pages of your site have been indexed in the search engines (Type site:mysite.com replace mysite.com with your own domain name) and how many links that these search engines have indexed for your site (Type links:mysite.com replace mysite.com with your own domain name). What you will not learn from them are the little things that that these experts have used that may also help you. Its not because they dont want to tell you, but rather these are strategies that are unique to these SEO experts and these strategies keep changing as they adjust to the search engines constant optimization requirements. To that end, I wanted to provide you with three practical tips to use to promote and grow your website. 1. Smart Use of Forms. If you have a contact form or any sort of form on your site where people are requesting information from you, always view these forms as a tool for marketing your site. If you are using a stand-alone form creation software or are creating the form yourself and dont know how to create and store the information in a database, simply create your forms with an email marketing software like Interspire Email Marketer, and it will store the information for you. A good email marketing script should be able to create all types of forms, not simply email forms for squeeze pages. Once you have the database, you will have the freedom to promote your site and products through email marketing. 2. Make Sure that Search Engines know What Your Website is About. Lets say that you have a website discussing search engines, when people search for terms related to jet engines, or car engines, does your site come up? If so, you are not using your keywords properly. One of the quick ways to determine how Google sees your site is through the use of a keyword tool. If you have ever done any Pay Per Click (PPC) advertisement, chances are that you have used a keyword tool. Google offers a good one for free at https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal. Go there and check the website content box and put your website address there and see what Google identifies as the theme of your site based on your sites keywords and content. This keyword tool is primarily an Adwords tool, however if the keywords that come up are not related to your websites theme, you will want to revise your websites content and keywords so that search engines will be able to direct traffic to your site more accurately. 3. Good Use of Press Releases. Lets say that you see something in the news about an upcoming beauty product. You rush to create a site discussing this product and decide to issue a press release and submit it to the free online press release websites and wait to see if the links are going to be picked up by the search engines. Have you done your best? Well, no. You have not used your local media, from the small ones (e.g. college newspapers) to the big ones (e.g. local paper and TV). The good thing about the local media is that the reporters are in town and easy to meet and talk to. They like to publish reports about the innovation of their local residents and you will start getting traffic from the town residents visiting your site. (I only used to do it for the big media like CNN, CBS, FOX, Reuters, AP, etc. The fact that I was able to get only one of my sites on national news, taught me what I was doing wrong. In fact, if you have a good story, printed in the local paper, it will likely get picked up by the bigger media). |
